Tuning slides must be parallel to unlock to cleanest and clearest articulation. For many years, I have worked on techniques to increase the accuracy of my tuning slides and the results in the horn have been really amazing. To get really good and accurate slides, it starts with an accurate crook at the top. This week, I made a set of tuning slides for the horns that are zooming along and I caught some of the crook making procedures.
